Amber was due on 6th July 2013 and because Isabelle had taken so much encouragement to arrive into the world i wasn't holding my breath that Amber would be any different and she would also be late.
How wrong was i.
The week before she was born had been a pretty active one for us. We went to the Look out Discovery Centre on the Wednesday and spent the afternoon there as well as climbing to the top of the look out tower and then we went out for dinner. The next day whilst Isabelle was at nursery i had a tidy up around the house and then for whatever reason decided it would be a good idea to play Just Dance 4 on the Kinect, i did this with Isabelle too to try and get her into position but it clearly didn't help as she arrived 10 days after due date. Amber obviously wasn't impressed in the slightest as that night she decided to make it known that her arrival was imminent.
3:20 Friday morning i woke up needing the toilet, as i got out of bed i had the hugest urge to wee and before i even made it to the toilet i had "wet myself". I was mortified and went into the bathroom to tidy myself up. I went to the toilet and then as i stood up again i had another huge gush, still thinking that i just had a very full bladder and was very embarrassed, it didn't even occur to me that it could have been my waters.
My mum was just waking up to get ready for work and as she came towards the bathroom and saw that i was awake she asked if i was ok. I was just stood there baffled and then said "I think my waters have broken, either that or my bladder has decided to stop working because i keep wetting myself". Mum suggested i ring the labour ward and let them know. So i put on a pad and rang the ward, within 5 minutes of me putting on the pad i was already soaked through, so i changed again and put 2 in this time. The midwife on the phone told me to put in a pad and wait an hour, if it was wet by the time i called back to come in, i told her id already soaked through 2 at a time and she said i should make my way in.
At this point i woke up Sean, mum rang work to say she would be off because she needed to stay home with Isabelle and because i was the only person (other then mum who wasn't an option) that could drive, i had to drive us to hospital. Luckily though i wasn't having any sort of contractions or pains, i was just a rather damp so we head off.
we got to CDS and they monitored me and said baby was fine but i wasn't contracting and i wasn't dilated or effaced so i would be taken over to the antenatal ward and wait for the doctor to see me. At this point it was about 7 am and Sean had to go home because he wasn't allowed on Antenatal until 9am so mum came to pick him up with Isabelle.
When the Doctor came round he said that they didn't want to induce me just yet as i was only 36+6 and they wanted to wait until i was 37 weeks before they initiated anything. So that whole day was spent me and Sean doing lots of walking around the hospital trying to encourage baby to move down and kick off contractions.
Saturday morning still nothing had started naturally so they decided to move me over to CDS and to start me with a dose of the gel and send me off walking again to try and get things moving. Isabelle wasn't allowed on the CDS ward so when mum bought Sean up to the hospital at 10am i ran out into the hall way to see Isabelle and say my Hellos and goodbyes before they started the process.
More walking was spent around the hospital, Sean's friends bought us McDonald's to the hospital because as most people know hospital food is DISGUSTING and i was starving. Then mum bought Isabelle up at 3pm when visiting hours started so we went to the hospital cafe and i got to spend some more time with Isabelle before they had to go again. I missed her so much but i think she was having way to much fun with Nanny to even consider missing me.
By 5 o'clock when i went back up to CDS to be checked i was 3cm dilated bit still not contractions or any pain so they started the drip. I managed to get to 10ml of the drip before needing Gas and Air. The contractions where strong but the gas and air helped alot. It was the first time i had ever had G&A because with Isabelle the pains got all too much too quickly so i had the EPI from 2cm. Gas and Air is a weird thing, i have never experienced a feeling like it before it was worse then being drunk. My head felt like it was coming off my shoulders and floating away from me and when i spoke my voice sounded like it was booming in my ears. Sean thought my reactions to this was hilarious, good thing he was entertained hey!
I then got to 14ml and it was almost midnight before it all got too much and the contractions were too strong it, I was too tired to carry on so had an Epi because I was only 3cm still. It broke my heart to have to give in and take the epidural again because i was so determined to do it with as little pain relief as possible this time but i was so disheartened that i hadn't dilated anymore and had a little cry. Sean was a great support at this point and told me how well i had done to get so far and to not feel defeated. Even the midwife said how proud she was that i had managed to get so far on the drip with just Gas and Air because most woman had the epidural along with the drip because they cant cope with the strength of the contractions.
Once they put the epi in i was able to get some sleep and i woke up at 5am and the midwife checked me. I was FINALLY fully dilated and I started to push at just after 6, even though I had the Epi I watched the monitor to see when my contractions where and was able to push her out all by myself without the midwife guiding me which was a brilliant feeling. Especially after giving in to the epidural it was a little boost to myself that i could do something on my own.
I was sat up at an angle so i was able to watch her crown. I was being really sick whilst i was pushing which the midwives said was helping to make my pushing stronger. Every cloud and all that ;)
Amber June Coppin made her way into the world at 7:22am on 16th June 2013 weighing 6lb 8oz. It also happened to be Fathers day so that was the perfect gift for Sean. Much better then any shop bought gift box of chocolates or card.
After she was delivered we had skin to skin contact whilst i delivered the placenta. I had very strong adrenaline shakes and midwives were concerned as i was still being really sick. It had got to the point where i had nothing left to be sick so was just retching. I was also lost a fair amount of blood although my placenta came away in one. They gave me an Anti sickness injection to try and stop me being sick but oddly it just made it worse and i started bringing up loads of green Bile but once that was over with it all stopped and i was able to concentrate on my baby.
Isabelle came up at 10am with Mum and Tony at visiting times to meet Amber and she loved her instantly and was so excited to have a hold with her new sister. As soon as Isabelle saw Amber she started saying "Hold please, Hold"
We had to stay in hospital over night because my HB levels were only at 3 and the should have been 10 so i had to stay in to be monitored but Amber was doing perfectly so that's all that mattered :).
